OUR STORY
C is for Clean started when I was on my way to the dentist. Just as I was walking out the door one of my 4 month old twin sons spat up, and I cleaned up and sprayed his toy with what I thought was an eco friendly “all-natural” cleaner-actually feeling pretty good about things. While waiting in the dentist’s waiting room, I found myself reading an article by Dr. David Suzuki. The article was on the hazards of artificial fragrances found in cosmetics and cleaning products even ones that are labelled eco friendly.
I was shocked. And I was even more shocked to find that many mainstream ‘eco friendly’ plant-based products contain petroleum bi-products, a known carcinogen. Many eco friendly cleaners are as toxic as the ones traditionally used and are not safe to be around your children. Companies are able to make claims without having to reveal what is in the cleaning formula because it is deemed proprietary.
I felt duped. This information made me angry as a parent. So I began researching what I should be using to clean with. I started with Dr. David Suzuki’s website, which lead me to the Canadian Environmental website, and many more in between. All of them recommended distilled white vinegar.
Vinegar is truly an amazing product — it does everything you need a cleaner to do, and is totally natural! The smell even dissipates after a few minutes. But I wanted my home to smell amazing and not like a fish and chip shop! So I added real essential oils and I still could not get rid of the vinegar smell.
After months of experimentation, I finally came up with a formula that delivers the cleaning power of vinegar with the lasting scent of my favourite essential oils. And by using real essential oils, I was able to create a truly all-natural product—the perfect product to be using in my home and near my sons.
I decided to start C is for Clean so I could share this product with other families also looking for a natural solution for their cleaning needs.
